Changes in sports broadcasting
Before the advent of ICT and the mass media, people used to travel great distances just to catch their favourite sports teams in action. These days, millions of people around the world can tune in at the same time to watch a sporting event, such as the Olympics or a Barclays Premier League match. As a result, sports have become huge businesses, contributing immensely to the economy. Over the years, with greater improvements in technology, such sporting events can be broadcasted to almost everyone in the world. It is interesting to see how sports broadcasting has developed over the years, from tuning in to the radio to catch the live commentary of a sporting event, to 3D screenings of such events.
Executive Summary
Here I’ll be focusing on how ICT and broadcasting has made sports a multi-million dollar business.
Background
I’ll be looking into the history of how people used to turn in or catch the latest updates of sporting events and how it has improved drastically to recent times.
Past
From travelling great distances to catch their sporting heroes live, to tuning in to other means of broadcast just to get the latest updates on certain events. Sports were never as huge as it is today.
Present
Live broadcasts in high definition, various camera angles to capture every single piece of action during the event to 3D broadcasts, sports broadcasting have improved drastically over the years.
Future
Technologies to allow viewers to feel as though they are watching live at a certain stadium, even more cameras (such as player POV cameras) to capture the action on the field.

ReplyDeleteYou have an interesting topic as well, in the area of sports, though i am not a fan of this area, but i have to agree with you that ICT has taken sports into a whole new level altogether.
I feel that ICT has not changed sports only in the area of broadcast. ICT has also changed by providing almost instantaneous updates of soccer through twitter, newsfeed, almost immediate commentary on how week or strong the line up is or the performance of a particular player. This has also changed the way sports is view, i.e in the past, it was a passive thing, you watch and you comment to yourself or your company of friends, but now you get to interact with experts and friends, despite of geographical locations and it changes the dimension of sports watching as well
Also, i think you can touch on controversies of this new change, like what are the possible downfalls of such a significant change in the sports area. It would be an interesting read.
Lastly, i feel your future direction may want to include a whole new level of sports watching, and assess the possibility of it.
overall, detailed outline and i cant wait to read your full report!(:
All the best in writing WC!(:

ReplyDeleteFor the changes in sports broadcasting, you can talk about the medium in which sports fans receive news or updates of the game. For eg, the use of newspapers or radio broadcasts. You have to be more specific on the innovation which is to broadcast sports live using technologies such as satellite broadcasting and live streaming on the internet.
Your scope should be clearer because I don't really understand what your rationale is. You could separate the introduction into innovation and rationale.
Perhaps, you can make the change even greater because it is rather narrow and that the change from the past to the present is not that significant. You could discuss on how in the past people have to wait till the sports event has ended to know the results or rely only on radio broadcasts. However, with technology advancements, they can catch it live.
As for the business aspect, it is a side issue which shouldn't be the gist of your argument here. Kindly refine your outline please.

ReplyDeleteYour outline is pretty short! Maybe you could research more examples of how ICT is being used in sports presently and how this could be improved. I think ICT and sports have big room for future improvements because I don't think it's very developed right now. I could be wrong because I seldom, or never, watch sports on television, but I think that ICT in the sports aspect has been growing considerably slow as compared to other aspects like education. You could definitely focus on this and bring in what you think could happen next! Overall a pretty interesting topic to do on! :)
